In last weeks hangout I was asked “Should you put a sound absorbing technology behind a speaker?” Well we have two issues that we have to address. We have pressure and reflections. So if you put a sound absorbing technology behind the speaker, how are you going to address the sidewall reflection? The sound absorption technology behind the speaker deals with pressure, the reflected energy off the sidewalls deals with reflections. So you have two things going on and you can’t really use one product to solve both.
So reflections and sidewall energy is mostly middle and high frequency so that’s air movement. The pressure build-up between the speaker and the back wall or the sidewall is a pressure situation that requires a pressure activated technology like our diaphragmatic absorption. So two different situations going on requiring two treatments.
There may be apps that do that. You can definitely find spectrum analyzers that will measure ultra low.
