A great video with Steve Albino, a well know studio engineer who has recorded groups like Nirvana does a seminar answering online questions. He grew up with little money, and he started long ago, so he has acquired some of his equipment for as little as ten dollars. He believes a record can be made in a week. Steve prefers his role to be purely technical, helping bands to execute their own ideas. Steve achieves sonic quality with room mics on the floor and a delay line mixing room sounds with ambient sounds and prefers natural sound to through compressors, except for lead vocals and bass drum.
