Gidday folks, I’m a software engineer and hobbyist muso living in NZ. My name is Geoff, but somehow everyone knows me as Paddy. Either is fine!
Been following videos here for a while, and have become very interested in acoustic treatments — not just for music, but for everyday life.
I’ve just embarked on a community project, the first beneficiary of which will be a local school. I aim to raise funds and sponsorship, arrange equipment donations, and enlist skilled helpers to fit out this school’s music/multi-purpose classroom with some treatments and gear that will make it a pleasure to use. The age group of children at this school is around 10-12. In the US, maybe it’s called “middle school” (??)
My secondary goal is to develop an education programme to get children learning about the process of recording and mixing music. Sorta like a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what goes into making recorded music.
If successful, I then want to bring this to other schools and create a conversation on a nation-wide level about the value of acoustics in learning environments. One possible flow-on effect is people being educated around this, so that one day we don’t need to have conversations about “egg cartons”!!
Yeah so that’s what I’m up to! Pleased to meet you. If anybody knows of any research/studies into the effect of acoustics in learning environments please do get in touch with me.
Dennis, I’ve submitted my room analysis form, and looking forward to speaking to you this weekend.
