Hi there, I’m just discovering the work of Dennis and Acoustic fields.
A former musician (recording, touring, teaching- I guess you could say ‘retired’), what drew me here is a project to build a rehearsal space for my kids and their mates underneath our house. It’s a walk-in ‘crawl space’ we’re finishing as a basement room. It doesn’t neatly fit the usual scenarios of listening, recording or Cinema.
Pros; it’s partly below grade and within the existing exterior walls, so noise abatement is not an issue, and the interior planes are un-built, so we get to implement a best-case design.
Cons; ceiling height is low, overall dimension small (16’x12’x7.5′), budget is low, and engineer specs a 2′ CMU knee wall with rebar along one side.
Other than that we can do what we want, so I’m planning to build in the necessary acoustic management into the 4 surfaces.
Any body else done a similar project?
