Hi. I am currently doing a quick “remodel” on my living/listening room and need some advice on flooring. The room is 12x19x8. Walls are some type of late 50’s, early 60’s wallboard with a plaster skim coat. The front wall has a 5×7 opening into a small entry vestibule. rear wall has a 3×4’3″ window. one side wall has a 3×7′ opening to a hallway approx 1/4 of the way into the room (as seen from the front wall) and the other side wall has a large picture window flanked by double hung units on either side. That total window area is 9’x4’3″. Speaker positioning is on the rear wall. Currently, moderately heavy drapes cover the window. Since I have just pulled up the old carpet and padding, my question is should I replace the carpet as it was, or use something else? Needless to say, the room is pretty “live” and my instinct would be to have wall to wall carpet reinstalled. Would the speakers be better on a hardwood surface for floor coupling or would that really matter? Since I am living here by myself, I would be fine with partial carpet/ partial something else. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
