I just moved to a new place and I’m setting up my hobby studio in the basement. I don’t expect to turn it into a pro level studio but would be nice to make it sound better so if you have some quick recommendations I’d be very grateful.
The basement has a bit of an odd shape and the only thing is has right now is the HVAC/furnace and the staircase which is essentially a wooden box. The walls are all painted concrete blocks and the ceiling is exposed wood joists. I put the desk in the only spot I could have L/R symmetry, 2′ from the wall, not sure if it’s enough.
Overall it’s like a 30’x32′ room but without a back corner (see sketch attempt below).
I’m planning to put some acoustic panels behind the speakers, on the ceiling over the desk area and on the back of the stair case, to kill early reflections. Do you think I’ll benefit from panels on the side walls too?
Then regarding bass traps, I’m clueless on how to proceed and what to look for…I’d be great to get your input.
I can’t find a way to upload a sketch of the room, but I’ll try this, with **** being the stair case.
