Many high-end studio’s I have had to pleasure to be in (Neil Finn of Crowded house fame’s Roundhead Studio’s and York Street, designed and started by Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke to name to as an example) have had a mix of diffusion strategically placed on the ceiling with diffusion rather than absorption often above the mix position, what are the pro’s and con’s of this application, and what would the usage/desired result be when placing these technologies .
Hi Hayden,
Diffusion is a good ceiling treatment option if you have distance for all wave forms to fully form prior to reaching the monitoring position. Absorption is not so distance dependent. Diffusion is also much more expensive running around 4-5 times more than absorption . Personally, I prefer diffusion.
