Real Low Frequency Absorption
For years, companies have been telling you that their products absorb low frequencies or as their literature says “bass absorbers”. This is incorrect for many reasons. Foam filled tubes or foam wedges do not have the physical makeup or characteristics to absorb any frequency lower than 100 Hz. It would take a piece of foam 11′ thick to absorb a 100 hz. wave. How can a foam wedge that is 12″ deep absorb anything other than frequencies above 100 Hz? The answer is that it can not.
Bracket Creep
For years we have had “bracket creep” in our graphs that show absorption performance. The definition of low frequency absorption has steadily risen. Low frequency absorption used to be anything below 100 Hz. Now, the literature is full of “bass traps” that say they absorb bass. Unfortunately due to raising the bar, I have seen products that advertise their technology as a bass absorber with absorption around 400 hz. Do not be mis-led by these claims. Do your research and stay informed. When you look at their test results they either do not have any or just claim that their product absorbs bass energy when in reality it cannot due simply to the laws of physics. Remember those? Those are the rules and guidelines we all in this business must play by.
Low Frequency Management Need Greater Than Ever
Our activated carbon absorbers really do what they say and we have the test results to verify their performance. Low frequency issues are more of an issue than ever before. Our smaller rooms, due to population creep and costs, manifest more low frequency resonances than ever before. The need for low frequency control is more important than ever. Look to a technology that is time tested and field proven to get real results.
