Joe Gilder’s main point in this article is to emphasize the importance of G.I.R.A.T.S. (Get it right at the source). Gilder believes, and he’s right in my humble opinion, that home studies should first find the root cause of the problem (the source), spend the time to invest in a good microphone, place the microphone in a good location for optimal results, and finally use trial and error (between the 2nd and 3rd step). Gilder believes that by following these 4 steps, recording and editing can be much more enjoyable.
